Guide to Setting Up Your Foscam Camera Wireless.

Guide to Setting Up Your Foscam Camera Wireless.

Once you have the Foscam IP Camera setup and connected via ethernet/network cable, please follow the steps below to set it up wireless.:

1) Most importantly, ensure you are running your wireless network on the 802.11/bg standard. 802.11/b and 802.11/g will also work, but not 802.11/n. However, all 802.11/n routers are backwards compatible with bg/b/g networks. Please refer to your router’s manual on how make this setting change if necessary.

2) Find and note down the following information about your wireless network:
a) SSID;
b) Encryption method (e.g., WPA/WPA2/WEP);
c) Encription technique (e.g., TKIP/AES/TKIP-AES)
d) Share key (Wireless Password)

To find the above information you need to log in to your wireless router. To do this enter the IP address of your router into your browser and press enter. You will be prompted to enter your router username and password. If you do not know the IP address of your router you can view it in IP CAMERA TOOLS by selecting and right clicking on your camera, selecting “Network Configuration”, and noting down the “Default Gateway” IP address. This Default Gateway IP address is the the IP address of your router.

Gateway

If you cannot figure out your username, password or the IP address of your router, refer to your router’s manual. If you don’t have the manual on hand, you can obtain a list of default router IP addresses, usernames and passwords by going to our blogpost here.

Once logged in to your router look for an option called “Wireless Settings” or “Wireless LAN”. Once in the Wireless Settings look for and jot down what you have for the setting called “SSID”. Next, look for the setting “Wireless Mode” and make sure it is set to 806.11/bg, 806.11/g, or 806.11/b.

SSID & Wireless Mode

Next, look under the “Security Settings” under “Wireless Settings’ and jot down the “Encryption Method”, “Encryption Technique” and the “Shared Key”.

3) Once you have the information about your network listed in step 2, log in to your camera while it is connected with the ethernet cable. To do this, open IP camera tools and double click on your camera, or enter your camera’s local IP address into your broswer. On the login page, enter the username and password for the camera (default username: “admin” / password: ” ” – leave password blank) and press “Login”.

You will notice that there are two “Login” buttons. If you are using IE, press the first “Login” button.
If you are using Firefox or Chrome, use the second “Login” button.

4) Once logged in to the Camera, look on the left panel and click on the option “For Administrator” (if using IE) or “Device Management” (if using Firefox or Google Chrome”). Then click on “Wireless Lan Settings”. Here, check the box next to “Using Wireless Lan”. Then, enter your “SSID”. Then, select your “Encryption” which is going to be (e.g., WPA/WPA2/WEP together with either TKIP/AES/TKIP-AES). Next, enter your “Shared Key”. Click “Submit” and let the Camera Reboot. Wait 30 seconds and then remove the ethernet/network cable and place the camera more than 5 feet from the router.

If you are having trouble, set your wireless Encryption Method to WPA and your encryption technique to TKIP. I seem to have the best results using those settings.

5) Give the camera about 30 to 45 seconds to start up and you should start to see the green led on the front flashing much faster than. Open IP camera tools and the camera should appear. Once your camera goes wireless your camera will receive a new IP Address, you will need to use this new IP Address when setting up port forwarding. Now that you have the Wireless Setup working on your Foscam IP Camera, then you can go on to the next tutorial which shows you how to setup your Foscam so that it is accessible from anywhere on the internet.

Basic Guide on Setting Up Your Focam Camera

Basic Guide on Setting Up Your Focam Camera

I have taken the time to explain the Foscam Wireless IP Camera setup instructions in language that is clear and understandable and which includes a step-by-step tutorial on how to setup your wireless router. After this you should continue on to the Wireless Setup Guide to make your Foscam IP Camera Wireless. And then continue on to the Port Forwarding Guide to view your camera live on the internet from anywhere in the world.

Setting up the Camera. What do you need?
Materials:
1) Your Foscam IP Camera
2) DC Power Supply
3) Ethernet network cable (RJ-45)
4) Wireless Router
5) Cable/DSL Modem with live Internet Connection
6) Computer
7) IP Camera Tools Software – comes on the CD or available at our website under the “Tools & Support” section.

Step-by-Step Installation Instructions:

Step 1.) Plug the ethernet cable into your Foscam IP Camera and then into your Wireless Router.

Step 2.) Plug the power cable into the camera and then into the power outlet. Wait 45 seconds. The green LED should go on and the camera will start to rotate around and then come to a rest (This means camera is doing its initial setup).

Step 3.) Install “IP Camera Tools” on your computer by double clicking on IPCamSetup.exe on the included CD or by downloading it from our website at www.foscam.us on the Tools & Support page. Also, please note that if you are running a Wifi 802.11/n wireless router then you will be required to make sure your router settings are changed to 802.11/bg.)

Step 4.) Once IP Camera Tools is installed, double click the icon on the desktop to open it up.

Step 5.) One of three things will happen:

I) Ideally, your camera should appear in the IP Camera Tools window and have an IP address assigned to it. It will look something similar to “Anonymous Http://192…..”. If this happens immediately go to Step 6;

II) The second best situation would be for the screen to say “Anonymous Subnet doesn’t match, double click to change!” If this happens just follow the prompt and double click on the words. The quick fix is to check the box “Obtain IP from DHCP server” and click “OK”, then close the IP Camera Tool program, wait 30 seconds, re-open it and your camera should appear. If that works go on to Step 6; if not;

III)
  1. Find out your subnet mask in Windows by clicking Start > Select or type “Run” into the text field and press “enter” > type “Cmd” and “enter” > Type the words “ipconfig” and press enter.
  2. You will see “Subnet Mask………255.255.255.0″ or a similar number towards the top.
  3. Copy that number into the “Subnet Mask” field in the IP Tools Network Configuration menu after you double click “Anonymous Subnet doesn’t match, double click to change!.”
  4. Restart IP Camera Tool program and the camera should appear in the window – Goto Step 7.  [Please be sure to wait a full 45 seconds for the camera to properly restart before expecting it to reappear each time settings are changed. (If you are still failing here give me a call, you may need a replacement).]
IV)
     1. If non of the above things happens then try to reset the camera by pressing the reset      Button (Using a paper clip or pen) for more than 35 second. Before resting make sure that the camera is unplugged from the router. Now press and hold that reset button for more than 35 seconds. Almost after 35 seconds camera will start moving (For camera that is having Pan &Tilt).  Now release the pen or paper clip from the reset hole and wait until the camera stops moving.  Once camera stops moving, unplug the camera from the power supply. Wait for 3 seconds and replug the camera to the power as well as to the router.  Then check whether it is showing “Anonymous Http://192…..” the IP amera Tool. If so follow from Step 6, if no check whether it is an issue with camera or not.

Step 6.) Double click on your camera in IP Tools to open it, or copy the address “http://192…” into any browser or your iphone!
